Lilavati Hospital, in partnership with Mayo Clinic, USA, has completed India’s reportedly first-ever Nursing Excellence Training Programme (NETP). The programme, which ran from 17-26 March 2025, aimed to enhance nursing education and care standards across the country.

The training covered critical care, operation theatre nursing, and clinical leadership for 120 nurses. The initiative focused on both medical knowledge and leadership development to equip nurses with skills for improved patient care.

A Nursing Excellence Programme Recognition Ceremony was held at Lilavati Hospital Auditorium to mark the completion of NETP. Senior nursing advisors from Mayo Clinic, hospital trustees, and other dignitaries attended the event. Trained nurses received certificates, newly designed uniforms, and the Mayo Clinic pin as a symbol of their readiness to maintain high healthcare standards.

Mr Prashant Mehta, Permanent Trustee, Lilavati Hospital, said, “We are proud to have launched India’s first Nursing Excellence Training Programme in collaboration with Mayo Clinic, a transformative initiative that redefines the standards of nursing education in our country. At Lilavati Hospital, we believe in not only advancing medical care but also empowering healthcare professionals to deliver the highest quality of patient service.”

Lilavati Hospital’s commitment to clinical standards extends to its SEWA (Service Equality for the Welfare of All) initiative. Established in 1997 by Mrs Charu Kishor Mehta, Founder and Permanent Trustee for Life, SEWA focuses on providing healthcare access to underserved communities.

The Trust adopted 108 villages under the “Food for Work” programme, securing food supplies such as milk powder, wheat, sugar, and edible oil from Uronaid Belgium. The Roshni Eye Bank, an initiative under SEWA, ranked third in Mumbai for eye donations and cornea transplants.

Since the governance shift under Late Shri Kishor Mehta, over 1,264 underprivileged patients have received free or subsidised medical treatment worth approximately ₹17 crores. The Trust has conducted eight major medical camps, benefiting over 5,000 patients, with more than 50 patients receiving free treatment, including surgeries for conditions related to the heart, spine, cancer, neurology, nephrology, and orthopaedics.

SEWA’s ‘Roshni Cataract Camp’ has provided over 605 free cataract surgeries to date. The initiative continues to offer treatment to those in need.

On 22 April 2025, Lilavati Hospital will conduct an Artificial Limb Camp Programme, providing high-quality prosthetic limbs free of charge to around 120 patients.

Lilavati Hospital remains committed to advancing healthcare education, patient care, and community service, strengthening healthcare accessibility in India.
