LV Prasad Eye Institute, Bhubaneshwar to celebrate tenth anniversary

In this landmark year, the Institute had launched three secondary centres in Odisha – Rayagada, Rajgangpur and Berhampur

LV Prasad Eye Institute (LVPEI), Bhubaneshwar will celebrate its tenth anniversary on January 16, 2016. The Chief Minister of Odisha, Naveen Patnaik, and Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak, Minister, Health & Family Welfare and Information & Public Relations, Govt of Odisha, are expected to be present for the celebrations.

The institute offers comprehensive patient care, eye banking, clinical research, sight enhancement and rehabilitation, community eye health and education. In this landmark year, the Institute had launched three secondary centres in Odisha – Rayagada, Rajgangpur and Berhampur.

We are happy to announce that over the last decade, LVPEI has treated more than seven lakh patients of whom 22 per cent were treated free of cost. Similarly, the Institute also performed more than 77,000 surgeries of which 34 per cent were performed free of cost,” said Dr Sujata Das, Director of the LVPEI Bhubaneswar Campus.

The Miriam Hyman Children’s Eye Care Centre (MHCECC) on LVPEI’s Bhubaneswar campus, is a comprehensive children’s eye care unit. The Institute provides training and education through a committed faculty, complemented with the most advanced technological and methodological tools at its Pathak Centre for Eye Care Education. The investiture ceremony of ophthalmic nurses and vision technicians; and diploma programmes in community eye health, will also be held on the occasion.

Over the past 10 years, LVPEI, Bhubaneshwar has worked to increase the collection of transplantable donor corneas. Drushti Daan eye bank ensures increased cornea harvesting and equitable quality cornea distribution for the benefit of the corneal blind.

Reportedly, as part of its anniversary celebrations, eminent artists from various countries have been invited to the Bhubaneshwar campus to showcase their talent. The paintings will be displayed in the campus for the occasion.
