Nobel Laureate Prof Muhammad Yunus inaugurates the Cancer Centre at Narayana Multispeciality Hospital

Major S Nanjundiah and Shanta Nanjundiah Cancer Centre’ was inaugurated at Narayana Multispeciality Hospital in Mysuru by Noble Laureate Prof Muhammad Yunus, Chairman of Yunus Centre and Founder of Grameen Bank, Dhaka, Bangladesh. Philanthropists K Dinesh and Asha Dinesh, have made a significant contribution to the Cancer Centre.

I am immensely pleased to dedicate this Cancer Centre named after my parents to the people of Mysuru. We are also grateful to Dr Devi Shetty and his team of professionals who will manage the services of this centre, offering high quality cancer care to people from all walks of life. This is our humble way of giving something back to the city, which was our ancestral abode for almost a century” said Asha Dinesh.

With a built-up area of 30,000 sq ft, the Cancer Center at Narayana Multispeciality Hospital will reportedly provide high quality services for early detection, prevention and treatment of all types of cancers covering medical, surgical and radiation oncology services. It has a Linear Accelerator capable of treating 90 per cent of the prevalent cancers. Haematology and bone marrow transplant services will be linked to Mazumdar Shaw Cancer Center at Narayana Health City in Bengaluru.

Speaking about the cancer treatment facilities in the state, he said, “Cancer is growing at an alarming rate in the country and currently the number of cancer facilities in the state of Karnataka are concentrated only in Bengaluru. There are very few facilities in the rest of Karnataka to diagnose and treat cancer,” he said.
