Max Healthcare with Imperial College London and European Commission launch three-year diabetes study

The study will map 10,000 citizens of India with pre-diabetic symptoms and will focus on health promotion and prevention of Type II Diabetes among South Asians

Max Healthcare, along with Imperial College, London and European Commission, officially announced the launch of a three-year ‘iHealth Type2 Diabetes’ study. The study will map 10,000 citizens of India with pre-diabetic symptoms and will focus on health promotion and prevention of Type II Diabetes (T2D) among South Asians.

The study will involve both men and women from the Indian subcontinent (India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka), as well as the UK to provide evidence about the implementation of lifestyle modification in both high and low income settings. The study is led by Professor John Chambers and Professor Jaspal Singh Kooner from Imperial College of London, UK and includes experts from India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

“The research will address the limitations of current approaches towards diabetes management. The ‘i-Health T2D study’ will be an expansive study of South-Asians in diverse settings. Our team, under the guidance of Professor John Chambers, will be using much simpler tools than what has been used so far, with HbA1c and waist circumference. Additionally, we will be screening individuals with pre-diabetic symptoms and subsequently select 10,000 people across Delhi, UP, Punjab, Haryana and Bihar, who will be participating in the study. This will be one of the largest T2D and lifestyle modification to be conducted in South Asia and our team at Max Healthcare is proud to have been selected to conduct this ground-breaking research,” said Dr Sujeet Jha, HoD, Endocrinology, Max Super Speciality Hospital, Saket.
