DY Patil University, Navi Mumbai, has teamed up with Mayo Clinic to help bring to the fore the importance of Medical Simulation-Based Education. “Started in the year 2008 by Mayo Clinic, USA, this 3-day “Comprehensive Simulation Instructor Development Course” has, to this day, trained over 300 physicians, nurses and allied health educators,” stated Fredric Meyer, Executive Dean, Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science.

He professes, from experience, that his trainees’ performance is largely dependent on the faculty’s ability to teach, communicate and evaluate their skills. This course will demonstrate fundamental concepts of simulation-based education, develop performance objectives for simulation-based education, create and facilitate a learner focused simulation scenario for a multidisciplinary audience and lead an effective and organised debrief session.
Participants will learn the principles of experiential learning including types of simulation, course design, and debriefing strategies. Learners will practice these concepts with the assistance of experienced faculty.
Simulation provides experiential learning by using simulation to replicate simple as well as complex clinical scenarios, as opposed to an apprentice style of learning. It increases competence in young graduates and can ensure patient safety and reduce patient discomfort.
