This model is expected to bring down cost of home haemodialysis significantly which will lead to further adoption by patients

With the outbreak of COVID-19, both patients and nephrologists have started increasingly opting for home haemodialysis. Dialysis patients are a vulnerable group because of their existing comorbidities, repeated exposure to risky hospital environment and immunocompromised state due to chronic kidney disease. These patients are consequently more prone to acquire infections and develop severe diseases as compared to the general population. Understanding this need, NephroPlus has launched ‘Dialysis on Wheels’ Programme where a patient can undergo dialysis inside an ambulance itself which comes to their home. The patient need not invest in equipment or worry about the risk of infection or access to emergency care. This model is expected to bring down the cost of home haemodialysis significantly which will lead to further adoption by patients. Patients need not commute long distances to a dialysis centre nor will a patient’s attendant waste a full day for their loved one’s dialysis and most importantly, no chance of contracting infections.

The pilot mobile van initiative will be accessible to patients across Delhi, Gurugram, Faridabad, Ghaziabad and Noida region who seek essential dialysis treatment right outside their homes. The ambulance van is designed by industry experts and comprises a fully operational dialysis setup that will be conducted by a highly trained dialysis technician.

Speaking about the initiative, Vikram Vuppala, CEO, Founder, NephroPlus, said, “NephroPlus has always been at the forefront of best in class dialysis delivery while adapting to the situation. We are proud to offer this unique service – Dialysis on Wheels to people on dialysis in NCR to start with and eventually we plan to scale it up to 20 major cities in the country.”

Further, Kamal D Shah, Co-Founder and Director, Patient Services, NephroPlus added. “The Dialysis on Wheels concept was designed for dialysis patients to offer flexible treatment timings, reduce the risk of cross infections and eliminate the need of having an attendant to go to a centre for dialysis every time.”

Patients who wish to avail of the service at their doorstep can call the NephroPlus customer care number 1800 120 001 001 or visit the website www.nephroplus.com.
