He was recognised for his contributions in the field of minimal access and bariatric surgery

Dr Pradeep Chowbey, Chairman of Max Institute of Minimal Access, Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery and Executive Vice-Chairman, Max Healthcare, was recently felicitated with the honorary membership from the renowned Japanese Society of Endoscopic Surgeons in Osaka, Japan. The Japanese Society of Endoscopic Surgeons is a body working towards the development of endoscopic surgery globally. Dr Chowbey was recognised for his contributions in the field of minimal access and bariatric surgery.

Commenting on the prestigious recognition, Dr Chowbey said “I feel honoured to receive this felicitation and I am deeply thankful to the Japanese Society of Endoscopic Surgeons. It is a proud moment to receive the recognition for my work from a widely respected association. These memberships and awards further strengthen my resolve to continue to do revolutionary work in the field of laparoscopic and bariatric surgery.”

Dr Chowbey was one of the first surgeons to recognise the increasing prevalence of obesity in India and looks at bariatric surgery as a mainstream medical solution to treat this problem, if the said issue cannot be resolved through lifestyle changes, healthy eating and other medical intervention.

The Max Institute of MAMBS was accredited as the Founder International Centre of Excellence for Bariatric Surgery by the Surgical Review Corporation (SRC), USA (2010) and Centre of Excellence in Endohernia by the Asia Pacific Hernia Society. The Institute is the first centre to receive these accreditations in India under the leadership of Dr Chowbey.
