Smriti Zubin Irani, Minister of Women & Child Development and Minority Affairs today while announcing the FICCI Healthcare Excellence Awards 2022 said that it is imperative for organisations like FICCI to institute platform for excellence at regional, state level and even at village level.

“It is the excellence which is celebrated at the grassroot level which will be our greatest achievement as an organisation,” she added.

Speaking on the Indian healthcare sector, Irani said that the sector during the pandemic, the industry stood up and proved to the world by not only manufacturing essential health equipment and vaccine but ensured saving number of lives. “The fact that we as a country could witness the administration of 200 crore doses in a definite timeline speaks volumes about the capacity of the Indian healthcare industry,” she added.

She also emphasised on the importance of partnership between the private sector and the government in managing any crisis.

CK Mishra, Former Secretary, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare & Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change and Jury Chair, FICCI Healthcare Excellence Awards 2022 said that there is a need for more investments to be made in the primary sector and the private sector can play a critical role in this. As a nation, we need to strive to ensure people don’t fall sick rather than treating the sick patient, he added. “Digitisation is one of the strongest enablers of the healthcare system,” highlighted Mishra.

Mishra also emphasised that Indian healthcare sector needs more public-private partnership in funding the pilot projects. We need to ensure that the pilot projects are further scaled up and not just keep at initial stage only, he added.

During FICCI Healthcare Excellence Awards 2022, Dr P Namperumalsamy, Chairman- Emeritus, Aravind Eye Care System, Director- Research, Aravind Eye Hospital was awared with Healthcare Humanitarian Award; Dr Ashutosh Raghuvanshi, MD & CEO, Fortis Healthcare with Healthcare Personality of the Year Award and Dr (Prof) Ashok Seth, Chairman, Fortis Escorts Heart Institute with Lifetime Achievement in Healthcare Industry Award.
