QAI conducts assessor training course for emergency department accreditation

QAI organised its first assessor training course from 23-25 July 2021 to prepare the skilled workforce to undertake accreditation assessments in time to come. A group of emergency medicine professionals most of whom are the head of emergency departments in private and government hospitals attended the 3-days extensive training to hone their understanding about the accreditation standards, QAI accreditation process and assessment techniques.

The members of the Technical Committee also joined the training. Training methodology included lectures and exercises including group exercises and mock assessments. It may please be noted that assessor competency is one of the most critical aspect to establish credibility of any accreditation programme. Therefore, carefully selected professionals are subjected to such extensive training. There was lot of interaction and questions from participants making the training interesting and productive.

Prof. (Dr.) Tamorish Kole, participant, Chair-TC and President of Asian Society for Emergency Medicine said, “We have to work hard and take the quality and safety agenda in the emergency department to all hospitals in the country and the region as this has become a necessity and COVID-19 pandemic has taught us all well.”

As part of the process, participants had to write a test and each one of them were subjected to continuous evaluation for three days on various parameters. On qualifying the training course, one will be empanelled as Trainee Assessor and will start his journey with QAI as part of the accreditation programme.
