Suburban Diagnostics launches ‘The Red Cause’ on World Blood Donor Day

With this platform, the company envisages curbing the gap between supply and demand of blood, platelets and plasma 

On account of World Blood Donor Day, Suburban Diagnostics has launched ‘The Red Cause, a digital platform open for all to use, a company statement said.

It added that with this platform, the company envisages curbing the gap between supply and demand of blood, platelets and plasma in the country.

“A social initiative by the company, ‘The Red Cause’ is a digital platform where blood, platelet or plasma requests can be raised with ease across the country. The requests are then shared digitally amongst a database of volunteered donors with the objective of finding a viable donor,” the statement said.

India has the world’s largest shortage of blood. With all states together, the country is battling a huge shortfall of 41 million units, the demand outstripping supply by over 400 per cent, as per a study published in the Lancet Haematology journal.

Sushant Kinra, COO, Suburban Diagnostics, emphasised, “The timely availability of safe and quality blood is often a decisive factor in saving a human life. The aim of ‘The Red Cause’ is to help save lives,” thereby, urging citizens to register today and play a role in saving lives.

Blood bank reserves in the country have been dwindling due to the movement restrictions during the lockdowns. Several hospitals through the country have struggled to meet the daily requirements of blood. This disruption has impacted availability of blood for emergency surgeries, post-partum haemorrhage cases (bleeding after delivery), thalassemia, sickle-cell disease and cancer patients.
