It is an initiative to improve the quality of life for the city’s senior citizens

Support Elders’ and Calcutta Metropolitan Institute of Gerontology (CMIG) launch The Silver Circle-U3A Eastern Zone. The University of the Third Age (U3A) movement, supported by the UK-based Third Age Trust, provides life-enhancing opportunities for retired and semi-retired people to share their skills and life experiences.

Reportedly, The Silver Circle-U3A Eastern Zone will have a structured approach comprising monthly interactions that will be moderated by geriatric counsellors and subject matter experts. The Silver Circle-U3A Eastern Zone has different stages, including life interface management; nurturing of special interests; hobbies; and transforming a passion to a purpose.

“The Silver Circle-U3A Eastern Zone has been set up with the vision – To add life to years that have already been added to life. Backed by the concept of life-long learning, it aims to make senior citizens strive for better quality of life through further learning, enhancing their knowledge for the benefit of the subsequent generations,” said Dr Indrani Chakravarty, Chief Functionary, CMIG.

“With the launch of The Silver Circle-U3A Eastern Zone, our endeavour to enhance the quality of life of the elders has gained a major fillip. It is indeed very enriching to see the elders’ enthusiasm and keenness to pursue interests and hobbies that they had never had the chance to pursue during their work-life. This helps them lead independent and meaningful lives in their own homes, which is one of our core objectives,” said Apratim Chattopadhyay, Co-founder, MD & CEO, Support Elders.
