TPAG writes to health minister J.P. Nadda on world blood donor day
Urging immediate measures to ensure access to safe blood and to implement comprehensive strategies for preventing thalassemia
On World Blood Donor Day, Thalassemia Patient Advocacy Group (TPAG) has written an open letter to Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare, J.P. Nadda, urging immediate measures to ensure access to safe blood and to implement comprehensive strategies for preventing thalassemia.
As an inherited blood disorder, thalassemia requires continuous medical attention and a comprehensive healthcare strategy to manage and mitigate its impact. Despite advancements in medical science and initiatives being undertaken to manage it, many thalassemia patients still face challenges due to a lack of awareness, timely diagnosis, and adequate treatment facilities.
Anubha Taneja Mukherjee, Member Secretary of TPAG, stated, “We are dedicated to protecting the overall interests of individuals with thalassemia and working towards a thalassemia-free India. Our mission is to ensure that all thalassemics are either cured or maintain a healthy lifestyle. We are committed to supporting the Government of India’s efforts in any way possible and look forward to meaningfully engaging with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare to enhance the lives of thalassemia patients across India. We believe that with the visionary leadership of the health minister, we can make significant strides in addressing this critical health issue.”
TPAG, along with thalassemia patients from across the country, has requested a brief meeting with the minister to discuss their concerns and suggestions.
