Wipro GE Healthcare has enhanced its local capability to manufacture a wide range of Versana products in India. This is a part of the company’s strategy to expand localisation and strengthen the supplier ecosystem. Commenting on the announcement, Shravan Subramanyam, Managing Director, Wipro GE Healthcare – South Asia, said, “With this new local manufacturing, we will cut down our imports of the Versana range by half. Long before ‘Make in India’ and ‘AtmaNirbhar Bharat’ became catchphrases, Wipro GE Healthcare has been manufacturing ultrasounds and other medtech equipment in India since 1992. With local manufacturing, we can fast-track the availability of these critical care equipment. The price benefit will also be passed on to our customers.”

“By end of 2021, the plan is to locally manufacture seven ultrasound products catering to OB/GYN, radiology, cardiology, anesthesia, emergency and critical care segments,” he added.

According to the statement, this is another significant step by the company to improve availability and access to quality healthcare in the country. The demand for affordable ultrasound devices is surging across the nation, especially in smaller towns and this additional local manufacturing capability will help the company serve this increasing need better. Currently, a Versana ultrasound device can be built in India with a 1.5-hour turn-around time owing to an agile supply chain ecosystem, thus enhancing responsiveness to customers’ requirements.

“For healthcare professionals, ultrasound plays a critical role in drawing patient data and visualisation, helping them make more informed decisions that may lead to better clinical outcomes for patients. Our state-of-the-art ultrasound machines under the brand names Versana, LOGIQ and Vivid, with its innovative technologies, have seen growing demand in India, especially in the value segment. These product lines will now be manufactured in the country,” added Ashit Shah, Business Head – Ultrasound, Wipro GE Healthcare, South Asia.
