World’s best nurse visits Aster CMI Hospital to empower nursing community
Duba, who won $250,000 (about Ksh.29 million) in prize money, is now making use of the opportunity to construct a school in the isolated Kenyan village of Turbi
The world’s best nurse Anna Qabale Duba recently visited Aster CMI Hospital’s nursing department and gave an insightful training session to the nurses. For supporting education and waging a campaign against antiquated cultural practices like Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) in her Kenyan community, Anna, a nurse stationed at the Kenya Marsabit County Referral Hospital, was the inaugural recipient of the Aster Guardians Global Nursing Award.
Duba, who won $250,000 (about Ksh.29 million) in prize money, is now making use of the opportunity to construct a school in the isolated Kenyan village of Turbi. She intends to close the literacy gap in North Kenya’s nomadic rural community. For her social charity, she was named one of the top 100 most influential young Africans in 2020. She has also completed five programmes and 20 projects for the Qabale Duba Foundation, mentored more than 3,000 people, and received over 10 awards.
“It is an honour to be able to share one’s path with the world, and I sincerely wish to motivate more individuals to become nurses and give back to their communities. As nurses, we have the chance to heal our patients’ hearts, minds and bodies,” said Duba.
