Brain tumours and associated neurological disorders pose a serious medical issue, impacting millions of people worldwide. These tumours interfere with normal brain activity, resulting in a range of symptoms such as headaches, seizures, and cognitive decline. This has driven the demand for advanced, minimally invasive treatments. In this context, South Korea’s radiosurgery systems market is projected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of around 6 per cent between 2023 and 2033, according to GlobalData.

GlobalData’s latest report “Radiosurgery Systems Market Size by Segments, Share, Regulatory, Reimbursement, Installed Base and Forecast to 2033”, reveals that the Asia Pacific (APAC) region dominates the global market for radiosurgery systems, with South Korea holding a 10 per cent APAC market share in 2023.

Aditi Dakshesh Parikh, Medical Devices Analyst at GlobalData, states, “Brain tumours, due to their critical location, present unique treatment challenges. Traditional surgical methods, while effective, carry significant risks and often lead to prolonged recovery periods. Advances in medical technology, such as stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS), have revolutionised the treatment landscape, offering non-invasive/minimally invasive options that preserve healthy brain tissue while targeting tumours with high precision.”

Recently, ZAP Surgical Systems announced the successful completion of the first brain tumour treatment at Dongguk University Ilsan Hospital in South Korea using the ZAP-X gyroscopic radiosurgery platform. The ZAP-X platform is a groundbreaking medical device designed for non-invasive and painless stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) to treat various brain conditions.

Parikh concludes, “As the healthcare industry continues to integrate cutting-edge technologies, the prognosis for patients with brain tumours and other neurological conditions is becoming increasingly optimistic. The continuous improvement in treatment methodologies and increasing accessibility to advanced medical devices are transforming patient care and making it possible to manage challenging conditions more effectively.”
